A whisper in the air, a tempting plea,
"Do you truly crave what people think of thee?"
A siren's call to pierce the social veil,
To know the honest truth, without a flail.

But tread with care, this path is fraught with pain,
For truth, uncovered, leaves a lasting stain.
The gilded mask of courtesy may fall,
Revealing shadows hidden from us all.

Can you bear the weight of judgments sharp and cold?
The hidden envy, stories left untold?
The whispers soft, the glances sharp and sly,
Reflecting back a self you can't deny?

Is honesty a gift, a cleansing fire bright?
Or does it burn away the day and night?
Is knowledge power, a weapon to command?
Or crushing sadness held within your hand?

For truth, once tasted, cannot be undone,
The innocence of blissful ignorance is gone.
So ponder deep before you seek to find,
The honest thoughts residing in the mind.
