A Poet

Let me take it way back, to a simpler, younger time,
Eleven years old, before I learned how to truly rhyme,
I was trying to figure out my place,
Then I stumbled on some words that put saw a smile on my face,
It wasn't just a book, it was magic, pure and deep,
Felt a sudden connection, promises my soul would keep,
Love at first sight, no question, it just hit me like a spark,
Felt my spirit ignite, shining light into the dark,
It wasn't just a phase,
Poetry became my hobby, through my wilder, younger days,
My constant companion, a secret garden in my mind,
Where every thought found rhythm, leaving worries far behind.

When the world got heavy, and the pressure started to build,
Stress reliever on demand, every empty space it filled,
More than just lines, it became my truest, dearest friend,
Stuck by my side, from the start until the very end,
When I needed to pray, needed to talk to the Most High,
Penned down my heart's confessions, reaching heaven through the sky,
It's my direct connection, a spiritual satellite,
Pouring out my fears, my hope, and my inner light,
And to the whole world, my feelings, raw and true,
My joy, my frustration, everything I'm going through,
Poetry's my therapist, no couch, no hourly fee,
Just pen and a pad, setting my inner self free.

Did I dream of mansions?Wealth from every verse?
Yes,that thought's been vivid, still a dream I hold so tight,
To make a living speaking truth, shining ever so bright,
But the real wealth I've gained, the treasure I truly keep,
Is the seeds I've planted, making spirits rise from sleep,
Motivated some, maybe inspired a great many more,
Left my mark on hearts, knocking down an open door,
I rarely claim many titles, rarely boast on what I am,
But this one truth stands firm, from the child to the man,
I'm definitely a poet, etched in my very core,
From that day at eleven, wanting nothing less, nothing more.

So if you ask me who I am, I'll proudly state my name,
A poet since that moment, fueling an eternal flame.
Poet. To the bone. My legacy. My home.
