Look Deeper

The wind it howls, it's always something, you see,
Another storm, another difficulty,
But fret we not, a laugh escapes my lips,
For burdens borne on calloused fingertips.

You wait for me to crumble, to concede,
To fold beneath the pressure, plant the seed
Of failure in my soul, a bitter crop,
But I've begun to climb, I will not stop.

I cut my way in, yes, a narrow start,
A tiny slit that tore the world apart,
To let me breathe, to let me stake my claim,
And where I fit? That's not a guessing game.

You offer wisdom, seasoned, tried, and true,
Ideas and thoughts, a different point of view,
And some resonate, within my heart they gleam,
But understand, I'm living out a dream,
My own design, with threads I hold so tight,
And I will weave it with unwavering light.

I abhor the violence, the brutal, senseless waste,
The ruined lives, the beauty interred in haste.
The echo of the screams, a haunting, hollow sound,
On battlefields where peace can't be found.
Must passion find expression in such pain?
In anger's fire, or lust's consuming reign?

For interpretation shifts, a fickle tide,
And perception blinds, where truths are forced to hide.
What you perceive, the surface that you see,
Is but a fragment of the entirety.
So look again, beyond the shadowed line,
For more than meets the eye, is truly mine.
