A plea ascends, a whispered cry,
“God help us now, beneath this sky.”
Chains bind us tight, a heavy toll,
How to break free and save the soul?

Insanity’s breath, a chilling breeze,
Whispers of madness through the trees.
This world, a whirlwind, wild and vast,
Some claim they hold the answers fast.

“How?!” we implore, a desperate plea,
Adrift together on a troubled sea.
I’ll own my ignorance, the gaps I see,
But truth is veiled, for you and me.

The all-knowing sage, a dangerous guise,
A blind man’s lesson, teaching eyes.
Misunderstood, the silence stings,
Yet wisdom’s voice, a blessing sings.

But no one knows it all, the truth’s embrace,
A chasm yawns ‘twixt arrogance and grace.
Can faith reside with open heart and hand,
Acceptance bloom in this divided land?

Kindness, a fear, a hesitant step,
“A threat concealed?” the wary kept.
Is empathy lost to self-defense,
A barricade against all offense?

“Nothing is new,” the proverb drones,
But darkness festers, rattling bones.
Drugs and weapons, a twisted art,
Ignored by some, tearing us apart.

Unpredictable, life’s fickle game,
One day you’re safe, the next, you’re lame.
A game of tag, a sudden plight,
One day, my friend, you just might be “It.”
