Consequences

What keeps us in line, the fear or the will?

Is it consequence dread, or the code that we instill?

Are you bound by the law, or the strength from inside?

That’s the real test of self, there’s nowhere to hide.

If you only play fair because you’re scared of the heat,

Not from your own heart, but the troubles you’ll meet,

Then your presence isn’t wanted, your loyalty’s frail,

True character shines when there’s no paper trail.

Because lying isn’t a crime, no handcuffs in sight,

People do it all day, no legal red light.

But it poisons the trust, leaves a mark on the soul,

A truth left unspoken, taking its toll.

So tell me your motive, what drives you to peace?

Is it avoiding the drama, seeking release?

Or the moral compass within, pointed true and so clear?

That’s the person I’m with, they have nothing to fear.
