Easy Money

"Money grows on trees!"
"Just reach out your hand, catch that easy breeze!"
That's fiction, a slick, twisted lie,
Because if it was true, tell me, when in comes to money so many people cry?

Why are the streets full of struggle, why are the bills stacking high?,
Why are we stressin'g about money, we have  hunger in our eye?
They preach "manifest wealth," "just believe and achieve",
But my bank account is laughing what am I supposed to believe?,
If the path to the riches was paved with pure gold, clear as day,
Then mansions would rise on every broke-down block today.,
But I'm looking around, all I see is the grind,
Worn-out souls in the trenches, leaving sanity behind.

I need it, I want it, that money, that green,
To escape from the cycle, the struggle unseen,
But there's a limit to how low I'm willing to stoop,
Won't sell my soul just to jump through their hoop,
They say "hustle hard, want it bad," like that's all that it takes,
But the game is rigged, for goodness sakes!,
If hard work was the key, then the world would be free,
From the chains of starvation, for you and for me.

I dream of the freedom, the choices, the mental peace,
No more checking the price tag, just watching financial worries cease,
Financial stability, a solid, firm ground,
No more chasing the crumbs, just to barely get around,
A roof overhead, for my family through the storm,
Keep my loved ones embraced, keep them sheltered and warm,
But this isn't a simple equation, no straight, easy line,
Working your fingers to bone, just to barely shine,
If pure effort and grit guaranteed the top spot,
Then why are so many still stuck in the same lot?

So don't feed me that fairy tale, that sweet simple myth,
When I see desperation, a life hard to live with,
Money isn't easy, it's a battle, a fight,
And that's why so many are still lost in the night,
I want some easy money, the comfort, the power to choose,
But if it's something crimal, dangerous or immoral that kind of "easy," I refuse.
